Upgrading from Community Server 2007.1 to Community Server 2008

You should back up all of your existing files before launching the Community Server 2008 upgrade tool.

You cannot upgrade directly from Community 2007 to Community Server 2008. If you do not have Community Server 2007.1 installed, you must first upgrade to Community Server 2007.1, then from 2007.1 to 2008. To upgrade to Community Server 2007.1, go to http://get.communityserver.com/download/cs20071up.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to http://get.communityserver.com/download/cs2008up/ to download the zipped upgrade tool.
  2. In the .zip file, open the upgrade folder. The list of files looks like this:

  1. Read the Upgradenotes.txt file. This file contains a great deal of important information you should know before upgrading.
  2. Copy the files contained in the Web folder to the folder to your local drive so they override your Community Server 2007.1 files.
  3. Open the CSupgrader folder.
  4. Double-click on CommunityServer.Upgrader.exe to launch the Community Server upgrade tool.

If you have not yet read the upgrade notes, Community Server provides you with a link to the notes.

  2. Click Next>. The upgrade tool shows you the database connection string and file locations.

The locations show the default paths for your existing galleries and post attachments.

  1. If the information is correct, click Next>.

If your existing site has virtualization, a screen displays that reminds you to read the upgrade notes about how to upgrade a site that has virtualization.

If your site does not have virtualization, the upgrade tool describes the upgrade process for you.

  1. Click Upgrade. The upgrade tool performs each process automatically. As each step in the process is complete, the tool shows a green check next to the step. The length of the upgrade process will vary depending upon the size of your database and how many files are in the database.

  1. Click OK in the modal window to close the upgrade tool.

After the upgrade is complete, you can check the log file to see all the actions taken by the upgrade tool during the upgrade process. If any errors occur during installation, you can use the information in the log file to troubleshoot the problem by posting the information on the dev.cs.com forums and requesting assistance.
