New Lines Stripped From Text Email Messages When Using Mail Gateway

Issue:

New line characters are being stripped from plain text messages mailed in to Community Server through Mail Gateway, and/or new lines are being stripped from plain text emails being sent out by Community Server.

Cause:

The serialization that is done on messages when being sent from Mail Gateway to Community Server caused new line characters to be removed from message bodies.  Additionally, a portion of the plain text to HTML conversion done by Community Server caused new line characters to be removed and led to an issue when Community Server went to send out plain text email notifications.

Solution:

To resolve the issue, please do the following steps. Please note, this hotfix is for Community Server 2007.1 only.  If you are on Community Server 2007, 2007 SP1, or 2007 SP2, please upgrade as 2007.1 saw a number of other improvements around email handling.

  1. Upgrade the Mail Gateway service by downloading a new version from the downloads page. You will need a build of 1.0.21108 or newer. You can download Mail Gateway here. (If you do not use Mail Gateway, but are having issues with outbound plain text emails, you can skip this step)
  2. Download the following hotfix and replace the DLLs in your Community Server site's "bin" folder with the contents of the hotfix.  The hotfix contains 4 DLLs which need to be updated within the Community Server site.
